TOPIC: WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR ME TO LET JESUS SPEAK MY NAME AND TO CALL ME TO HIS SIDE? First Reading: Genesis 41: 55-57; 42: 5-7a, 17-24a Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 33: 2-3, 10-11, 18-19 Alleluia: Mark 1: 15 Gospel: Matthew 10: 1-7 In today's Gospel reading, we see Jesus summoning His twelve disciples, giving them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and cure every disease and every sickness. Each of the Apostles were named, instructing them to go, not to the Gentiles but to the lost sheep of Israel. Looking at the Gospel narrative, it is impressive to see just how motley a group they were. They seem so far from what an apostle should be. They were always bickering and many times they find it very difficult to understand what Jesus was trying to say. Yet Jesus seems to have chosen them so carefully. He even calls them by name, and they did carry out their most important mission, that of taking the Gospel to the whole world. He trusted them so much that He sent them right at the beginning of his ministry and gave them great power. Jesus calls us too, by name. He called us in our poverty and sent us to fight evil, to heal every sickness, and to proclaim the kingdom. As we recite the list of the Apostles' names, let us do so with deep gratitude, being reminded that their mission and our mission is the mission of Jesus. This is the 1185th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings. [NOTE: As we continue to pray for Bro Bong Arjonillo’s healing and recovery, let us listen to our brother Raymond Bucu, Head of the CFC Gateway Evangelization Programs, as he brings us today's reflection.] All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives.
