Coroner Identifies Man Shot and Killed By Dayton Police at UDF

DAYTON -- The Montgomery County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the man shot and killed by Dayton police as 45-year-old Terry Heath. The 45-year-old Dayton man is accused of stabbing his neighbor, Johnny Hagan Monday night at apartment complex off Wyoming Avenue. Following the stabbing, police say Heath drove to the UDF where officers confronted him they say he threatened them with a knife. Heath has an extensive criminal record which includes drugs, resisting arrest and failure to comply to orders. Police reports indicate he was arrested just last Wednesday by officers during a traffic stop. When he was transported to jail, authorities found drugs hidden in his sock. He was released a short time later. The stabbing victim, Hagan, remains hospitalized in serious condition. His brother tells us he was stabbed several times after an altercation. A press conference is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon with Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl. EARLIER: UPDATE: DAYTON -- A deadly shooting is under investigation after an officer is involved. It happened just after 11:00 Monday night at the UDF on Wyoming Street. The man was shot and killed after he allegedly threatened police officers with a knife. Police tells us that the man at the UDF was believed to be involved in a stabbing further down the road on the 2300 block of Wyoming. A witness told officers that after the stabbing the man went to the gas station, where he died at the scene. Police are not yet saying how many shots were fired. After the incident officers blocked off the UDF gas station for several hours. Homicide detectives were called in and the Professional Standards Bureau was also called in to conduct the administrative investigation. The officer involved in the shooting is on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation, which is standard procedure. Later today, we expect to learn more about the shooting. The police chief says a new conference will be held this afternoon. In the meantime, the man who was stabbed on Wyoming Street is currently in the hospital with potentially life threatening injures. He was recently upgraded to stable condition. UPDATE: Officers continue to investigate after a suspect involved in a stabbing was shot and killed by a Dayton police officer at the UDF on Wyoming Street. Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said officers were called after a reported stabbing at an apartment on Wyoming Street. A male victim was taken to Miami Valley hospital for a stab wound to the abdomen, his condition has been reported as stable. Biehl said a witness to the stabbing reported the suspect was at the UDF on Wyoming Street, officers confronted the suspect, who they say lunged at them with a knife, which is when the shots were fired. The suspect died at the scene. The officer involved in the shooting is now on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Biehl said it's not clear what prompted the earlier stabbing, but did say alcohol appeared to be involved. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BREAKING: DAYTON -- Police responding to an officer involved shooting at the UDF on Wyoming Street. A shots fired call came out just after 11pm, followed by a '99' or officer in trouble call, which was quickly canceled. Medics and evidence crews were then requested at the scene.
