Update: Dayton Police Investigate Officer-Invovled Shooting

UPDATE: DAYTON -- A Dayton police officer is on paid administrative leave after he shot a suspect in an alley off Euclid Avenue. Asst. Chief Bob Chabali with the Dayton Police Department says a marked cruiser attempted to stop a man for jaywalking who was acting suspicious, but when officers went to approach him the suspect took off running. When officers caught up to the man they say the suspect reached for a semi automatic pistol with an extended magazine. Before the suspect could fire a shot, the officer shot the 22-year-old Dayton man in the leg. "We have the magazine as evidence. It does appear to be loaded," Asst. Chief Chabali said. Assistant Chief Chabali tells us the officer acted professionally and within their policy. The name of the officer has not been released. He has been put on administrative leave, which is standard procedure when an officer is involved in a shooting. The suspect was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
