National experts and now National Guards are being deployed to New Jersey’s long-term care facilities. One hundred and twenty soldiers will step in to aid the coronavirus crisis inside New Jersey’s nursing homes beginning this weekend. Statewide the coronavirus has claimed 8,801 lives with 254 new deaths announced Thursday. New Jersey’s total confirmed cases is now 133,635 with 1,827 positive tests added in the last 24 hours. At his daily press briefing, Gov. Phil Murphy noted that the daily counts are leveling and the rate of positivity among those tested is also on the downward bend. The Department of Health is reporting another major milestone. The number of hospitalized patients has decreased to less than 5,000 since the department began publicly tracking the data. That’s down 40% since the peak three weeks ago. That's more reason, according to the Murphy administration, to keep up with our social distancing.
