Finding My Voice by Renee Bergstrom | Voices to End Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting

This story was created in a workshop organized and led by StoryCenter (www.storycenter.org), in collaboration with Sahiyo: United to End Female Genital Cutting (sahiyo.org). Renee was a three year old growing up in a Christian farming family in the Midwest, when her mother took her a doctor who performed female genital mutilation (FGM). For much of her younger adult life, Renee kept quiet about what she experienced. More recently, she has spoken out and connected with a global community of advocates against FGM.
