Shame - by Leena Khandwala

Content Advisory: This story addresses the human rights violation of female genital mutilation or cutting, FGM/C. Viewers should watch at their own discretion. The story is not appropriate for children. Leena talks about her experience of khatna (a term used to describe FGM/C in a number of Muslim communities) when she was seven, when an aunt took her to a Dawoodi Bohra woman to be cut. She describes the event vividly, the shame she felt afterwards, and wonders whether she might be better able to enjoy her sexuality, had she not been forced to undergo the practice. This story was created in a workshop organized and led by StoryCenter (http://www.storycenter.org), in collaboration with Sahiyo: United to End Female Genital Cutting (http://www.sahiyo.com).
