After a 4-1 defeat in the 1st Leg of their Coca-Cola Cup tie against Oxford United at the Manor Ground, York City put in a better performance in the dead rubber 2nd Leg at Bootham Crescent. York took on a lacklustre Oxford side who never really got out of first gear throughout the game, yet still had enough quality and incisiveness to see the job through. City’s distant hopes of a comeback were dead by half-time with the scores still at 0-0 but in the second period, Graeme Murty’s strike gave the home side some pride as the Scottish winger powerfully sidefooted the ball past United keeper Elliot Jackson. But the home side ran out of steam and Oxford work from their slumber, winning the game with two late goals. First Martin Aldridge tapped home from close range for the equaliser, then Aldridge went from scorer to provider, setting up Nicky Banger for the winner. Oxford went through 6-2 on aggregate and got all the way to the 4th Round where they lost to Ipswich Town in extra time. York City: Samways, McMillan, Hall, Bushell, Reed, Barras, Murty, Tinkler, Tolson, Bull, Stephenson (Pouton). Attendance: 1,555 Footage from Sky Sports Re-edited and Remastered by Phil Howden
