This is my 1970 Slingerland Buddy Rich Model drumset that I bought at Sam Ash Music in New York City. I had worked all summer of that year to buy this set of drums. I can remember looking at that Slingerland catalog for so long wanting to get the BR Slingerland set model No. 80N. in the Marine Pearl Finish. I have had these drums packed up for over 5 years and never played it since I was using my other drums in my concerts. I thought it was time to bring out my first pro set that I bought in August of 1970. The drums sizes I got was a 14x22 inch bass drum,9x13 tom,16x16 floor tom and the 4x14 snare drum. The two cymbal stands in the video you see are the model 66 Buddy Rich stands that came with this set. Of course I took super great care of these drums and they still look great after 45 years. These are the 3ply shells with the rock maple reenforcing rings built into the shell. They have a very warm and open sound to them. All of my Big Band concerts,I use the larger 24 or 26 inch Slingerland bass drum.Lots of video`s of me playing these drums on Youtube. This was the first time I used these drums for my Jazz Quartet concert on December 5 2014 at the Firehouse Cultural Center in Ruskin, Florida. This was my drum solo on Caravan,a song made famous by Duke Ellington. The musicians in my Quartet are Tony Castellano on piano,John Lamb who played with Duke Ellington on bass, and Franco Marino on tenor sax. I will be posting a lot more video`s from this concert. These Slingerland drums are a part of drum history and they have their own very distinct sound to them. I never thought that 45 years later,I would still be playing these classic Slingerland drums.
