(19 Jun 2014) The US football team said on Thursday they were expecting Portugal to put up a last ditch fight in their group G game against the European nation on Sunday. Portugal lost its first game against Germany and will risk elimination from the tournament if they loose Sunday's game. "We will try everything to win this game," USA team midfielder Jermaine Jones said at a news conference. "If we win a game and they lose it ... they are out of this tournament, so I am 100 percent sure that they will try to do everything to win it." Weather will be an important factor in the match to be played in the hot and humid northern city of Manaus. But US team members said they were prepared for the adverse conditions. "A lot of us we've played in temperatures like that ... it is probably similar to Houston, Dallas, midwest, east coast in the summer so, hopefully when we get there it won't be as shocking as it has been to some other teams," said midfielder Kyle Beckerman. After the news conference it was announced that forward player Jozy Altidore will not be available for Sundays game against Portugal due to a left hamstring injury. Altidore was hurt during the first half of Monday's win over Ghana. Team USA's next game will be against Germany on June 26.
