FGM Too Much Pain: The Voices of Refugee Women - 5/6

"The need for an age and gender sensitive reception system" is addressed in part 5 of a series on female genital mutilation (FGM) and asylum: "Too Much Pain -- The Voices of Refugee Women" produced by the UN Refugee Agency (http://www.UNHCR.org). One of the refugee women visits the asylum centre where she was accommodated during the asylum procedure and talks to her social worker. This part shows aspects of the life in a reception centre. It is specifically dedicated to asylum and health professionals as well as social workers who work in asylum reception centres. FGM survivors' specific needs (primary and reproductive health, psychological problems) must be taken into account in asylum reception systems. The 6-part video series "Too Much Pain -- The Voices of Refugee Women" tells the stories of refugee women who have undergone FGM and are engaged to end this practice. These women explain their experiences of flight, asylum and integration in the EU. It can be used as a training tool on FGM in the asylum system, and to raise awareness on FGM and asylum in wider audiences.
