A court verdict in Kuria East in Migori county to hand down a three-year jail sentence to a couple for forcing an 11 year old daughter undergo female genital mutilation continues to shock local residents. This especially since female circumcision is one of the rights of passage practiced for many years by members of the Kuria community.
