Presidential poll: Opposition sets up a contest, fields Yashwant Sinha

#YashwantSinha #PresidentialElection #OppositionParties #leadership Read story here: https://tinyurl.com/2p8u97c8 The opposition on Tuesday set up a contest for the July 18 presidential election by fielding 85 year old Yashwant Sinha as its common candidate to “uphold the secular and democratic character of the Indian Republic.” Thirteen parties unanimously chose Sinha after a second meeting of the opposition held in the Parliament annexe on Tuesday to finalise a consensus nominee after NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi and National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah opted out of the race. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
