Drummer Ken Loomer Swinging Big Band Plays Woody Herman

As a drummer Big Band leader, I must choose all the music that fits the style of what my Big Band is all about. One of the best Big Band leaders I saw in person was Woody Herman. It was always about the music first with leaders like Woody Herman. I must hire the best musicians I know to play these great charts that I have in my book.This arrangement done of Things Ain`t What They Use To Be by Dave Lalama for Woody Herman`s Big Band is just what I love to play to feature my outstanding musicians. As a drummer,I just want to make the music feel good with my playing to support my fellow musicians. Like always, as a leader I would change the arrangement to fit what I want to hear and give my musicians the space needed for some exciting soloing. I have learned from Big Band leaders like Woody Herman,Louie Bellson, Buddy Rich, Mel Lewis,and Maynard Ferguson to always give 100% to the music you play. Plus playing with these excellent musicians in my Big Band makes the hard work of having a Big Band a joy to do.
