One of the best snare drums that Slingerland made for Buddy Rich was this 5.5x14 ten lug model back in 1976. This had the new 5 ply maple, poplar, maple, poplar, maple shell which was a thick shell. It had the new TDR strainer with the snares going across the entire bottom head. Also new was 3 vent holes to get a crisper sound. The rims were the straight edge hoops which Buddy liked best for rim shots. A very clear and crisp sounding snare drum that projects so well when I use it with my Big Band.
