Wide of Haniyeh at meeting STORYLINE: Police scuffled on Friday with Muslims protesting against Israeli construction work outside a disputed Jerusalem holy site, but the scattered clashes were quickly contained and no one was seriously hurt, police said. Fifteen protesters were arrested, police said. Three thousand officers - triple the ordinary number - were deployed around east Jerusalem to keep order during weekly Friday prayers and access to the hilltop shrine was restricted to women and Muslim men over the age of 50 with Israeli Identity cards. Friday prayers at the Al Aqsa mosque, attended by thousands of Muslims every week, have often been a flashpoint for clashes in the past, and last week, fierce clashes erupted in the wake of Israeli construction work. Muslims have charged that Israel is plotting to undermine the foundations of the mosque in order to rebuild the Jewish temples that stood there in biblical times. The deeply emotional dispute over the site, known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary, has triggered violence in the past and scuttled several attempts at peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Some of those who were refused entry to the Islamic compound, prayed outside the Old City with Israeli Muslim leader Raed Salah. No casualties were reported.
