JUST AND GENEROUS | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (September 24, 2023) We are on the Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time; in today’s Gospel, Jesus continues to teach us about God’s mercy and generosity. Jesus gives his disciples another parable. There was a landowner who hired workers for his vineyard at different times of the day. Come evening, the landowner gave each worker “the usual daily wage.” Those who worked at the vineyard from five in the morning grumbled because they “thought that they would receive more” compared to those who started working later. The landowner told these displeased workers: “I am not cheating you . . . Take what is yours and go . . . Am I not free to do as I wish with my own money?” Friends, today’s parable is a good reminder, especially to us who are “early” or “active” in God’s vineyard, the church. Sometimes we feel we are entitled to more blessings, more leniency. But the parable shows us that we must receive what God gives us, and rejoice at what others have been given according to God’s wisdom and generosity. #CardinalTagle #TheWordExposed #JesComPh ______________ The Word Exposed with Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples reflects on Sunday's Mass readings each week.
