THE GREATEST, THE LOWLIEST | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (October 29, 2023) We are on the Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time; and in today’s Gospel, we will hear how Jesus summarized the commandments. The Pharisees asked him: “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” This was a topic of much debate during their time; so, should Jesus make a “mistake,” it would further anger the religious leaders of his time. How did Jesus answer? He said: “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
