SET YOUR AFFECTION ON GOD | MAKE JESUS FAMOUS PRAYER HOUR | PASTOR BEN OCHOLA
Tuesday 4th August 2026 Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (KJV) One of the things that helps you get the most out of your moments of praise, worship, prayer, and giving is learning to set your affection on God. Setting your affection on God means shutting out anything that contradicts His Word and focusing your mind, heart, and everything within you on Jesus. It is in that realm that you will be able to tap into the things in the Spirit: see and hear what God is saying. Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. You can't be led by the Spirit when you are in the carnal realm because, according to the Bible, the carnal mind can never please God. Remember, God is spirit; whatever you do to have an impact in the Kingdom must be done in spirit, and this is only possible when you set your affection on Him. Because we know who God is, we can never give up or throw in the towel. It is very important, as a child of God, to study and understand His nature and character, because this will help you in seasons contrary to His Word. Life happens to us: sometimes our plans fall apart, we are disappointed by friends, or the pressure from others becomes overwhelming, but when you know your God, you are strong even in times of opposition and contradictions, knowing that He is the one who stabilizes your ship amidst the storms of life. (Psalm 46:10) Why Should We Trust God Even When Everything is Failing, and Nothing Makes Sense? 1. God cannot lie Men lie even when they do not want to, but God is worth trusting because He does not lie: every promise He has told you will come to pass. (Numbers 23:19, Titus 1:2, Hebrews 6:18) When the enemy tries to bombard you and harass your mind that God has lied to you, doubt your doubt but trust God, for the Bible says, "...let God be true but every man a liar." (Romans 3:4) 2. The character of God matches His Word. (2 Timothy 2:1, Malachi 3:6) God can be trusted because He is faithful—it is His nature; He cannot deny Himself. We are all humans living in this foreign world which can sometimes harass us, but we must be conscious of the fact that God's promise of His faithfulness flows from His character: He is faithful, and He keeps His Word and promises.*(Joshua 21:45, 2 Corinthians 1:20)* God loves you irrespective of who you are or what you have done; His love for man is unconditional, regardless of performance.
