Man who dismembered Seattle mom gets nearly 28 years in prison

A man accused of dismembering a Seattle mother he previously dated, and then stuffing her remains in garbage bags was sentenced to nearly 28 years in prison. John Charlton was sentenced in King County Supreme Court on Friday for the slaying of 40-year-old Ingrid Lyne, a mom of three who was a nurse. He pleaded guilty to murdering her and stealing her car in October. “He deserves more,” Phil Lyne, Lyne's ex-husband, said in court. “You've taken our daughters’ compassionate, caring mother who I respected very much. You have taken someone who was not yours to take,” he told Charlton. Judge Julie Spector said she would’ve sentenced the 39-year-old to life in prison if it weren’t for the state’s guidelines. Charleston’s 27 years and nine months sentence was the maximum time for inmates to serve in the state, according to KOMO-TV. Charlton told cops he met Lyne on a dating site and dated for about a month. He said they went to a baseball game on April 8, 2016, the night before she was reported missing. They went to a bar and then to her house, but said he somehow he ended up sleeping on a sidewalk. Charlton said he was too drunk to remember details of that night. A homeowner called the police after finding three plastic trash bags he thought contained human body parts, which the medical examiner confirmed were Lyne’s. Investigators found a 15-inch pruning saw near her bathtub and her blood and flesh in the drain pipes, court documents say. “There are no words that can alleviate the pain that I caused, and for that, I am truly sorry,” Charlton said at his sentencing.
