Seoul, Washington and Tokyo to hold first missile defense exercise in Hawaii

한미일, 29일 첫 미사일 탐지•추적훈련…"北 미사일 방어" South Korea, the United States and Japan are set to hold their first missile defense exercise in Hawaii this week. The joint anti-missile exercise scheduled for Tuesday reflects the countries' accelerating efforts to counter North Korea's advancing missile capabilities,... following Pyongyang's launch of a mid-range Musudan ballistic missile last week. The three countries will each dispatch one Aegis Combat System-equipped warship to the drill. South Korea will send its seven-and-a-half-thousand ton guided-missile destroyer, "Sejong the Great" to take part in the exercise. Seoul's defense ministry said the drill will not involve the actual firing of an interceptor missile as it will mainly focus on sharing information needed to detect and track the enemy's missile launch.
