‘I can’t be clearer about it’: PM confirms ‘priority’ of first term is Voice to Parliament

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed the “priority” of his first term is the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia’s constitution with a Voice to Parliament. “I actually begin every speech with that as part of my acknowledgment of country,” he said during a media conference on Monday in Canberra. “I can’t be clearer about it.” When questioned if a referendum on Australia becoming a republic would have to wait if a Voice to Parliament was hypothetically voted down, Mr Albanese said he would “not be commenting on those issues at this point in time”. “I’ve made it clear that my position on our constitutional arrangements has (sic) not changed, the Australian Labor Party’s position is clear,” he said.
