Iraqi Kurd leader vows to stop IS advance

(3 Mar 2015) The Prime Minister of Iraq's Kurdish Regional Government said on Tuesday that the advance of Islamic State (IS) militants could be stopped with the help of the region's allies. "This war that we are dealing with today in the Kurdistan territory against Daesh (IS group), is not only a war against the Kurdish community but it is a war facing humankind, all of humankind and all countries in the world," Nechirvan Barzani told a news conference in Rome. Barzani spoke after a meeting with Italian Foreign Minister, Paolo Gentiloni. On Monday, Barzani met with Pope Francis at the Vatican and with Italian Premier Matteo Renzi.
