Sam Whaley interviewed during Laser Class sail training with the British Sailing Team in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria. Sam Whaley’s rise through the sailing ranks has been rapid. A self-confessed late starter at the age of twelve. Whaley has found a strong love for the sport to the point where at 16 he had already designed and built his own boat. In the years in between Whaley fast-tracked his racing career with a national competitive debut at the age of 14 in 2011 and going one step further to compete internationally a year later before joining the British Sailing Team ranks. Off the water don’t be surprised if you see a future Whaley in the international spotlight with his tech and coding savvy attracting the attention of Microsoft to the then 18-year-old.
