Hillary Clinton's lawyers filed a motion in court this week seeking to get Donald Trump's lawsuit against Hillary dismissed due to, as they said, a complete lack of merit. They aren't wrong, as the lawsuit is seeking to penalize someone for basic campaign tactics that nearly all politicians engage in. But the lawyers made many others points that could prove problematic for Trump moving forward, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains. Link - https://www.politico.com/news/2022/04... As we all know, Donald Trump is suing Hillary Clinton, the DNC, and several dozen other individuals for basically doing opposition research on him in the 2016 election. And this week, Hillary Clinton's lawyers went into court and basically asked the judge to go ahead and dismiss, dismiss with prejudice, this lawsuit that Trump has brought against Hillary Clinton. Now this request would not affect any of the other defendants in the case. This is only specific to Hillary Clinton and dismissing it with prejudice would mean that no matter what Donald Trump could not refile the lawsuit. Couldn't reformat it. He couldn't change things. It'd be over with. Hillary Clinton, excuse me, would be out of it. And the reason that they're saying this is one, there's no merit to any of the claims that he makes and really that is the biggest part of it. Hillary Clinton and the DNC, whether you like it or not, whether you agree with the Steele dossier, whether you think it's total crap that they did it. They didn't even originate it by the way. Let's not forget that. That was the Washington Free Beacon, I think. So anyway, that's basic opposition research. Every political campaign does that. Some of the things they get are true, some of them are not. Sometimes people run with the untrue statements and political speech is one of the most protected speeches out there and it's almost impossible to sue for defamation. But of course, Donald Trump is, is trying to do that basically, but that's basic campaign work and that is what these lawyers are arguing. Like first and foremost, he can't sue us for this. Second of all, the things he's saying like, that's basic campaign work. And then number three, another big one, they say the statute of limitations has already passed. For cases like this to sue for the things Trump is trying to sue for statute of limitations is between two and four years. It's been over four years. So even on the high end, Donald Trump already missed this statute of limitations, which of course is something I had brought up when he first filed this suit is like, why now? You've been out of office for over a year. If you really thought this was an issue, obviously you wouldn't wanna sue for this while you were president of the United States, but you could have filed the lawsuit on January 21st, 2021 when you were longer president of the United States, you waited more than a year after leaving office to finally just sit there at Mar-a-Lago getting off enough to say, oh, gah darn it. I'm gonna go after these Democrats now. Well, you waited too long. Statute of limitations alone should get this lawsuit dismissed. But as I said before, even if this thing goes forward, I'm actually okay with that. Pardon me. Even if Trump wins, I'm actually okay with that. Because if Trump were to be successful in this, and it's not because I hate Hillary Clinton or the Democrats, that's not it. If Trump were successful, that would open the door for every single political candidate out there to sue their opponent when they run these false attack ads against them. I would love to see that happen. I would like to see us have to clean up political ads here in the United States. That would be a net benefit for everybody. You know, you can't just go out there and say whatever the hell you want, make up all these claims about your opponents, which is what they do. If we can put a stop to.
