Eph 2:19-22 Gospel Lk 6:12-16 Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called a Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. Reflections: Jesus’ strength and weapon is prayer. We read on many occasions in the Gospels, Jesus either goes to a lonely place to pray before undertaking any important decision and task or praises and thanks the heavenly Father before carrying out miracles. In the Gospel of today we encounter the event of choosing the twelve Apostles. Jesus knew them well but he didn’t decide alone before choosing them. He consulted his Father and choosing the different persons from different backgrounds and temperaments to deck them with his own truth, his own way and his life and not their own knowledge or efficiency. Just us he does only what the father wills so must his disciples carry out their mission of healing and preaching only in his name. On the Feast of Saints Simon and Jude, we recall their sacrifice for the proclamation of the Gospel. Activities: Today make decisions only after taking some time to pray . .
