UN Syria envoy hopes Geneva peace talks will resume in May

A United Nations spokesman has said the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, hopes Syrian peace talks can resume in Geneva in May. Ahmad Fawzi said the meeting of the International Syria Support Group is expected to be held on May 17. Fawzi also said that the UN views the Russian-US joint statement issued on May 9, in which both sides promised to step up efforts to uphold the ceasefire in the country, as a positive development.
