"The First Day of the Week": The Unaccepted - Women at the Tomb

In the second sermon in our series on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we examine the testimony of the first witnesses of the empty tomb--the women who were disciples of Jesus. We see how their testimony, which would not have been accepted in the societies in which they lived, were initially dismissed but also how the truth of their witness could not be marginalized. We also note that since a woman's testimony was unacceptable in the societies of the time the story of the resurrection as recorded in the gospels would not have been the most effective story to create in order to substantiate the resurrection of Jesus. This suggests that the first followers of Jesus told the story as it happened and not in a way to attempt to enhance its reliability. Speaker: Lyall Armstrong Church: Cedars Church, Beirut, Lebanon
