The end of the run. Not with a bang, but with fire touching an old man in the crotch. Go to first video for restrictions. I don't want to type this out anymore. Here we are. The end of the run barring Gwyn and a nice looking final area where you can run past everything. I know that there really wasn't anything else they could have possibly done for the enemy placement here but it still strikes me as a bit too easy to just run past all the black knights here. I suppose that disappointment and desolation is the theme of this area that's culminated in... GWYN, LORD OF CINDER (4:05 - 4:39 failed attempts, 4:46 - 5:39 success) Gwyn is, without any doubt in my mind, the most aggressive boss in the entire game. He does NOT give you ANY break in between attacks. If you parry him however he's a bit of a joke since he pretty much can't touch you. Even if I was good at parrying him - which I'm not - I wouldn't do it because I want to give him a fair fight. The strategy I use here is essentially to bait his large leaps that he does when you get too far away, roll under it and then counter attack with a Great Combustion. The Dragon Crest Shield makes a final hurrah here in that it provides better fire block and stability is not nearly as big of a concern as it is now. And of course it wouldn't be my run if it didn't involve me dying like an idiot now would it? The fight is relatively underwhelming but I think that actually works to the it's advantage. He's not supposed to be flashy and at his maximum power: he's a god who sacrificed everything to keep status quo. He threw away his title, his power, his land, his sanity and his image just so that Lordran didn't have to change. It's even reflected in his somber boss music - my absolute favourite track of the game - that you're just fighting a retired legend who is no more sane than the Hollows you met way back in the Undead Asylumn. And no, the music that starts up when he dies is not from the game. That's just me and my editing. So with all that said, you might be wondering why I chose the ending that I did. Well... to go in to details would be massive spoilers (not of this game) but basically "to keep consistent". And with that the run is over. It's been one hell of a thing. Before I stop writing this I got a couple of people and places to thank. Thanks to: -The Let's Play subforum of Something AWful for serving as a damn good guide for how to make all of this watchable. -Those who have done challenge runs of this game for any reason (Vegeta311 and Emarrel in particular) for serving as the inspiration for this run and for coming up with tricks to get around issues. -From Software for making such a wonderful game. Despite what you would think during certain parts like Crystal Cave I really do love this game. -But most of all, thanks to you for taking the time to watch this. If you think I'm doing another Dark Souls run after this though you're out of your mind. Oh well. Goodbye! ... What do you mean I didn't word that last part right? Do you really want MORE references to that? I made too many as is.
