Here I am, my loyal subscribers, with another solid Elton John 1986 show: Live at the Sandstone Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, Kansas, outside Kansas City, on August 21, 1986! This show was uploaded by Gregsynthwizard last year, but I am uploading this show again as a prep for my upcoming 1985-1986 tour debate on Skype in January 2013. The source recording is a fairly distant, yet decent audience recording, and it is complete, except for minor cuts in beginning and end of some songs. This show has also been uploaded (in video form!) by Ollie "Elton Stuff" as well. As this show took place 6 days before my last upload, Montreal 1986, Elton is in very good voice at this show, with no trace of the sick sound he would start developing at the latter show. Elton has his awesome 1985-1986 band and back-up singers, and he does a very good show, even better than Montreal! IMO, this is vocally one of his best US 1986 shows. He also does his amusing song intros, for example introducing Better Off Dead as a song from "Capitaine Fantastique" (he uses French pronunciation here!) The opening number, Tonight, is very good, with Elton hitting the falsettos nicely. One Horse Town is a great version, one of the best vocally conservative versions ever. Better Off Dead is a great version as well, and he sings very well here. Rocket Man, as typical of 1986, is just plain AMAZING, gotta love the instrumentals and vocals! Elton then goes on to sing a great version of Philadelphia Freedom, IMO one of the best versions on the US 1986 tour. Burn Down the Mission is another great 1986 version vocally and instrumentally, it's always better live, especially in 1985-1986. Someone Saved My Life Tonight is another great version, EJ hits the falsetto on "anymore" on the first verse! The Bitch is Back is yet another good 1986 version. The medley is great, Elton sings some great vocals on all 3 songs, especially Song For You and Blue Eyes. Levon is a great version with some powerful vocals, it has to be one of my favorite 1986 live versions! Paris is good as always, and Restless is even better, with very energetic music and vocals! Bennie and the Jets is great as always, it is one of the better US 1986 versions, and of course, has some funny third chorus phrasing "Oh God, they're weird and they're wonderful!" Love Song is good, Elton plays acoustic guitar, as is typical of the 1986 tour. Sad Songs is a great version, even though he doesn't do the usual extended intro, instead he has a funny moment calling for his assistant Cedric (LOL!) This Town is another great version, Elton does some hectic piano playing! I'm Still Standing is great, it has some very good music, plus Elton hits the now-ubiquitous angry bird notes. Nikita is another great version, with great music, vocals, and great back-up singers, he always does great versions live! Elton then fires up the crowd with a great version of Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, with very energetic music! He then makes the mood somber with an excellent version of Candle in the Wind, the vocals on this version make this one of the best 1986 versions. Elton then follows this with Daniel in a great transition, and it is a great version, so good that the whole crowd goes wild! And to close the show, Elton croons a wonderful version of Your Song, with very beautiful music and moving vocals. With this new upload, I hope you enjoy one of Elton's finest 1986 US shows!
