UKRAINE | Group C | Team Profile | EURO 2020

Champions League-winning striker and AC Milan legend, Andriy Shevchenko, is heading into his first major tournament as head coach after five years in charge of Ukraine - the aim is to reach the knockout stages for the first time after group-stage exits in 2012 and 2016. Shevchenko was an assistant coach in France five years ago and made the step up after the tournament. The core of the team is made up of established players like Manchester City full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, West Ham winger Andriy Yarmolenko and Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Yevhen Konoplyanka. Junior Moraes, the Shakhtar Donetsk forward, will miss the tournament due to a ruptured knee ligament suffered in April - the 34-year-old is expected to be out for six months. Being drawn with the Netherlands, Austria and North Macedonia in Group C gives Ukraine a solid chance of reaching the European Championship knockout rounds for the first time. They open against Frank de Boer's Dutch side on the 13th June in Amsterdam, then face North Macedonia and Austria in Bucharest on 17th and 21st June respectively. 1. 00:05 - 00:17 SOUNDBITE (English): Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine head coach: ''For us, the target is (to) pass the stage group, and we are looking for (it), and it can be a good result for us." 2. 00:20 - 00:51 SOUNDBITE (Russian): Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine head coach: "For us, it's very important to have our key players in their best condition. Also, the fans are quite excited and optimistic after the recent results of the team under Shevchenko. People are looking forward to the competition. Hopefully we can make history."
