This half-hour police drama, filmed in New York, was a sort of warm-up for producer Herbert Brodkin who would film several other shows in The Big Apple, including 'The Defenders' and 'Coronet Blue'. 'Brenner' was about a 20-year veteran cop (Edward Binns) and his rookie son (James Broderick) who had differing styles of policing. It had an unusual run: 16 episodes in 1959 and 10 more in 1964. Several sources claim the show's crew and actors all reassembled in 1964 to make the ten 'new' episodes, but it's not so: all the shows are copyrighted 1959. The scheduling is not the only unusual aspect of 'Brenner'. There's also the theme, a solo saxophone over kettledrums, most likely by Frank Lewin. It's different, to say the least.
