JOIN BROADCAST PLAZA TODAY, DISCORD'S MEDIA DISCUSSION COMMUNITY — http://bit.ly/S31MA On Saturday, October 17th, the Fox O&O in the Seattle-Tacoma market went live with the standardized Fox O&O graphics that debuted last year and early into this year. The station retains its longtime "Q13" branding as opposed to "Fox 13". You thought the OSI music was dead at long last? HA! It's being used for the open here, and only that. Stephen Arnold's Beyond is being used for everything else (such as bumps, teases and stings). Drew Patterson also stays as the station voice, an oddity for a Fox O&O. KCPQ is a former Tribune station that was taken over by Nexstar in September 2019. However, Nexstar traded the station (and WITI in Milwaukee) over to Fox in exchange for WJZY in Charlotte. Fox has long wanted to own as many affiliates as possible in NFC markets, since that means more money for the network from ad sales. All former Tribune stations are being forced to switch graphics in quick order due to Tribune's former newsroom management system (OPUS) being built in Adobe Flash, which is being discontinued at the end of the year. While the stations that stayed with Nexstar are either retaining their existing packages (rebuilt for a new CG system) or picking up existing packages designed for that company, the stations spun to other groups (Tegna, Scripps and Fox) are switching to standardized graphics these companies already use, and installing new CG systems as well to accommodate this, in the case of Fox, Chyron systems. Tribune was notorious for utilizing their own homebrew software through the group for daily operations (OPUS for newsroom management, FLIGHT for graphics play out) and with Nexstar declining to support further development of the software in favor of purchasing off the shelf software/equipment for their group, all former Tribune stations are being forced to install new systems and train staff, regardless of owner, at great expense.
