In this episode of The Urban Debate, with Heena Gambhir, we will talk about the unemployment rate in India. Even before the third wave, the unemployment rate in India in December 2021 is at 7.9%, a four-month high. The rate has risen to 7.9% in December from 7.0% in November, its highest since 8.3% in August. With Covid cases on the rise and the threat posed by the Omicron variant, many states are imposing fresh curbs due to this economic activity and consumption levels have been affected. This could negatively impact the economic recovery of the nation. "There are about 38-39 million unemployed people in India.
