Severe weather will be possible this afternoon. Please be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions. Storms will have the potential to produce damaging wind and hail, along with a few tornadoes. At 12:45pm, storms are beginning to fire along the cold front. These storms will move into the Quad City Metro by 3pm, possibly severe. As the storms mature, a few storms could produce tornadoes. While we're talking about some serious weather (and you should have an action plan for today), this isn't late-May or early-June. That's primetime for severe weather here in our area. For this to be a moderate or a high risk of severe, we would need a few hours of sunshine. If that occurs, our severe weather chances would increase greatly. Something to watch. Finally, to be honest, there's a greater chance you will NOT have severe weather...but you need to be prepared just in case. The severe weather threat will end pretty quickly as a cold front passes east of the area by 6:30pm tonight. Keep an eye to your southwest today. -Meteorologist Eric Sorensen
