Then your light will break forth like the dawn, soon your wounds will be healed, righteousness will go before you, the glory of the Lord behind you. Then you will cry out to the Lord, and he will answer you; you will cry for help, and he will say to you, 'Here I am.'" When you remove oppression, the pointing finger, and slander, when you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted soul, your light will shine in the darkness, your gloom like midday." Word of God Psalm Ps 111:4-5, 6-7, 8a, 9 R/. The righteous shines like a light in the darkness. V/. In the darkness, he who is just, gracious, and compassionate shines like a light. Blessed is he who shows mercy and lends, and who manages his affairs rightly. R/. V/. For he will never be shaken. The memory of the righteous will be everlasting. He will not be afraid of evil tidings, his heart is steadfast in the Lord. R/. V/. His heart is steady, without fear. He gives alms to the poor; His charity endures forever and he will lift up his head with dignity. R/ Second Reading Reading from the First Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians (2:1-5): Brothers, when I came to you preaching the mystery of God, I did not come with sublime eloquence or wisdom, for I never claimed to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I also came to you in weakness and trembling with fear. My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive human wisdom, but in the manifestation and power of the Spirit, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom but on the power of God. Word of God Gospel Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew (5:13-16): At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how will it be seasoned? It is no more good than to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bushel basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. The Word of the Lord
