#FatherPedroJustoBerrio #WithTheFlavorOfTheGospel #Incarnation Readings for the 4th Sunday of Advent - Cycle B First Reading A reading from the Second Book of Samuel (7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16): When King David had settled in his palace, and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See, I am living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the Lord dwells in a tent.” Nathan answered the king, “Go and do all that you have planned, for the Lord is with you.” But that night Nathan received the following word from the Lord: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: Are you the one to build me a house to live in? I took you from the pasture, from tending the sheep, to be ruler over my people Israel. I will be with you in all your endeavors, and I will cut off all your enemies and make your name great among the most renowned men on earth. I will establish a place for my people Israel and plant them there so that they may live in safety and security. I will no longer let the wicked afflict them as they did before, when I appointed judges to govern my people Israel. I will give you peace from all your enemies, and the Lord declares to you that he will establish a dynasty for you. When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. I will be his father, and he will be my son. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever through me.’” Your presence; your throne will endure forever.” Word of God Psalm Psalm 88:2-3, 4-5, 27, 29 R/. I will sing of your mercies forever, O Lord I will sing of the Lord’s mercies forever; I will proclaim your faithfulness through all generations. For I said, “Your mercy is an everlasting building; you have established your faithfulness more firmly than the heavens.” R/. “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant: “I will establish your line forever; I will build your throne for all generations.”” R/. He will call to me, “You are my Father, my God, the Rock of my salvation.” I will maintain my favor on him forever, and my covenant with him will be firm. R/. Second Reading A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (16:25-27): Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel, through the preaching of Christ Jesus, the revelation of the mystery kept secret for long ages but now disclosed, through the prophetic writings and made known by the decree of the eternal God, to bring all nations to the obedience of faith to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to be glory forever and ever. Amen. The Word of the Lord Gospel A reading from the holy Gospel according to Saint Luke (1:26-38): In those days, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David; the virgin’s name was Mary. The angel came to her and said, “Greetings, you who are filled with joy; “Thank you, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” She was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.” Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” The angel left her. The Word of the Lord
