I quit the vegan diet 4 years ago when I was 18...In this video I will lay out my journey with the vegan diet, how I used to eat and what I wish I knew before I actually tried being vegan. My Story: Discovery - Of course how will you start the diet if you don’t know about it. I found the diet on YouTube of course and it got recommended to me via the Youtube algorithm as I was interested about weight loss. Learning - I watched multiple videos from different creators on the platform to learn how it was “done” and what kinds of things they were eating Honeymoon - I fell in love with the diet and could not stop talking about it, I would watch vegan Youtubers all the time. Indoctrination - Would never do this but I refused to look at opposing information, I was essentially in an echo chamber. I would exclusively watch vegan only content, read vegan news etc Uncertainty - This is where it all ended, I just couldn’t do it anymore. Towards this point, I had started “cheating” eating a little bit of dairy like cheese and some eggs (eggs are not dairy)...And I really doubted I could actually continue on, so I stopped Now here’s what I wish I knew before going vegan: bioavailability, variety & supplementation Bioavailability: This means if I eat this thing, how many nutrients am I going to get from it? The vegan diet has lower bioavailability than the non-vegan diet. In this video, the example used was iron. Variety: I would consistently eat mainly carbs and very little protein, no or very low fat. This made me constantly hungry and made me lack satiating meals Supplementation: I didn't take vitamin B12 or even iron supplements when I was eating in this way. I was told by the internet/Youtube basically that I didn't "need" to do this. I wish I did my own research before I tried this way of eating. I will hold my hands up and say I made a ton of mistakes trying to follow a vegan diet due to my own naivete and impressionability at the time - I was only 17/18.
