Robot pet takes its first "steps"

My robot pet takes its first "steps". Presumably more will follow. The hardware is from China (DealExtreme), the MCU is Arduino Uno (Atmel Atmega 328p), but the code is native C and only the Arduino bootloader is in use from the Arduino project. Buying the hw as a complete speeds up this kind of project nicely, so far the working hours are about 5h, from which 2h went on debugging out a broken cable.
