On August 15, I'll urge the international community to call on the Indonesian government to consider the following options: Permit a United Nations fact-finding team to enter West Papua to investigate and monitor the human rights situation there. It is crucial because, over the past few months, thousands of women, men, children, and even babies were arrested for expressing their views in peaceful rallies. They may be held against international laws. Resume high-level talks with our West Papuan political leaders in the country with the aim of setting a timeline for a genuine Act of Self-determination.[ii] We are also calling Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG)[iii] and Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) leaders,[iv] include the Australian and US governments, and the United Nations to intervene to stop this gross human rights violation in West Papua I believe that these are the only effective means of addressing West Papuan and Indonesian conflict in West Papua, but the UN must take a lead in this and I will continue raising them. I urge all our protesters or participants to protest peacefully and to exercise their God given right to protest. Website: hermanwainggai.net
