Here's my take on George and Ira Gershwin's 'Someone to Watch Over Me', recorded live at Mr. Vain / mrvainbrisbane and featuring Chris James on alto sax / chris_.jam The Gershwins wrote 'Someone to Watch Over Me' for their 1926 musical 'Oh, Kay!'. The musical had an incredibly successful run on Broadway and in the West End, thanks in part to this very popular song. In the musical, it was written as an upbeat tune, but when it became a jazz standard, it was most commonly played as a ballad. It was first performed by Gertrude Lawrence in the original Broadway production, and it has also been sung by Frank Sinatra, Frances Langford, Dinah Shore, Ella Fitzgerald, Chris Connor, Chet Baker, Polly Bergen, The Platters, Sammy Davis Jr., Jeri Southern, Sarah Vaughan, Della Reese, Keely Smith, Pearl Bailey, Blossom Dearie, Dakota Staton, Lena Horne, Rosemary Clooney, Nancy Wilson, Barbra Streisand, Arthur Prysock, Helen Merrill, Julie Andrews, Ray Charles, Ethel Merman, Dick Haymes, Liza Minnelli, Linda Ronstadt, Jack Jones, Etta Jones, and even Elton John. I hope you enjoy it! ---------- Subscribe: / @jordanasmussen Merch: https://jordanasmussen.myspreadshop.c...
