Mid shot of rally STORYLINE: Thousands of Pakistani women staged a peaceful rally in the southern city of Karachi on Saturday to protest against the recent cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. Many of the 12-thousand women who took part in the rally called for those who drew the cartoons to be hanged, police said. They chanted slogans against the Danish government and burnt Danish, American and Israeli flags. Banners with slogans such as "We will sacrifice everything for the our Prophet Muhammad" were carried by women throughout the rally. Senator Dr. Kousar Firdous, who participated in the protest said all the religions of the world should be respected and left free from ridicule. "Dialogue should be adopted to bridge this gap," she said. Others took a less conciliatory note and urged the government to sever ties with those countries where the cartoons have been reprinted. The rally was organised by Jamaat-e-Islami - the country's oldest, and best organised religious party.
