Sen. Democrats praise Schiff's impeachment closing

(3 Feb 2020) Closing arguments in President Donald Trump's impeachment trial finished Monday. The four hours of arguments provided one final chance to influence public opinion and set the record ahead of his expected acquittal in the Republican-led Senate. California Rep. Adam Schiff, who prosecuted much of the impeachment case against Trump, gave an impassioned closing argument. His speech was hailed by fellow Democrats as powerful. "I was so moved by his speech," Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer said, "and I hope maybe it pierced the hardness that is put in front of so many of our Republican colleagues." Schumer said Republicans know it takes "strength and courage," to defy Trump. The chamber is expected to take the final impeachment votes on Wednesday.
