Grand Canyon to Arizona-California-Nevada Tri-State Border via Route 66 | Scenic Drive
Embarking on a road trip from the Grand Canyon South Rim to the tri-state border of Arizona, California, and Nevada, with a detour via historic Route 66, offers an unforgettable journey through the American Southwest. Leaving the Grand Canyon, the route winds through the Kaibab National Forest with its ponderosa pines and transitions to the open plains of northern Arizona. Reaching Williams, the Gateway to the Grand Canyon, you experience the nostalgia of Route 66 with its neon signs and vintage motels. Continuing west, the scenic Arizona high desert unfolds with rugged mountains and mesas. In Seligman, a quirky town that celebrates its Route 66 heritage with vibrant murals and memorabilia shops, you get a delightful glimpse into the past. Approaching Kingman, the road meanders through the Hualapai Valley. Kingman itself is rich in history with a vibrant downtown area, home to the Mohave Museum of History and Arts and the Historic Route 66 Museum. Leaving Kingman, the journey takes you on a thrilling segment through the Black Mountains to Oatman, a living ghost town where wild burros roam the streets. Descending from the mountains, the road opens to expansive desert vistas towards the Colorado River. The shimmering water contrasts against the arid landscape, marking your entry into the Mojave Desert with its rugged mountains and sparse vegetation. Finally, arriving at the tri-state border along the Colorado River, you witness the stark beauty of the river cutting through the desert, highlighting the vast and diverse nature of the American Southwest. Throughout the journey, the road offers an ever-changing tableau of natural beauty, historic charm, and the enduring spirit of adventure that defines the great American road trip.
