Abdul Hussein Hamid Khalaf STORYLINE: Two US soldiers were wounded and a suicide attacker died in an explosion on Sunday near a checkpoint in Ramadi, according to a Marine spokesman. Witnesses at the scene said a car bomb drove into the US and Iraqi troops stationed in the area. Another alleged attack on US troops occurred in Barwanah on Saturday when an improvised explosive device went off, damaging a US Humvee, according to residents. Eyewitnesses in the town 270 kilometres (168 miles) west of Baghdad said a Humvee was blown up and casualties had been evacuated by helicopter. There was no immediate comment on the incident by the US military. Meanwhile in Baghdad's northern neighbourhood of Ur, gunmen killed Shiite cleric Adil al-Janabi on Saturday night in a drive-by shooting. Sheikh Jabbar al-Mihmidawi, the imam of Ammar Bin Yasser mosque, expressed his frustration at the killing, saying more has to be done to "bridge the gap among rival parties" and end criminal activity. In Baghdad's Dora neighbourhood on Sunday, gunmen fired on a car carrying police Brigadier General Abdul Hussein Hamid Khalaf, wounding him and killing his son, police said.
