Santa opens Christmas Post Office for children's letters

(16 Nov 2017) Father Christmas drove his electric postal van into the eastern German town of Himmelpfort on Thursday to open this year's official sorting of Christmas letters addressed to him. An initiative sponsored by the German post office, Children for Christmas, sees letters and wish lists being sent in from all around the world to a temporary Christmas address located at Himmelpfort post office, around 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Berlin. Letters addressed to 'Father Christmas, Christmas Post Office, Himmelpfort' arrive from over 62 countries and are responded to personally by Father Christmas and his multilingual helpers, no matter which language they are written in. Each reply has a special Father Christmas stamp on it. Last year over 300,000 letters were sent in. On Thursday Father Christmas was greeted on arrival by children from Fuerstenburg Three Lakes Primary School who were waiting with their wish lists for him. The children sang Christmas songs and gave their Christmas wish list letters to Father Christmas.
