SmarTrend Market Close Wrap-Up: June 8, 2010

The major U.S. equity indices closed mixed Tuesday on ongoing concerns over the European debt issues and global economic growth. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke helped to boost some investor confidence by saying that the economy will continue to recover. However, Bernanke added that it will not be at a pace strong enough to bring the unemployment rate down quickly. In corporate news, McDonald's (NYSE:MCD) shares rose 2.1% after the company reported that global same-store sales rose 4.8% in May. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) closed 1.26% higher at 9,939.98, the S&P500 (INX) closed 1.10% higher at 1,062.00, and the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) closed 0.15% lower at 2,170.57.
