She was born 366 years ago in Frankfurt (Germany). Merian made detailled paintings of plants and insects. After a two year travel to Surinam she published her well-known "Metamorphosis insectorum Surinamensium". Her detailed documentation of the metamorphosis of the butterfly made her world-famous.
