E191 - Roz’s Moto Adventure Ride Australia - NT, Part 2 Finke Desert Race, Old Ghan Heritage Trail

Saturday 22/5/2021: Episode 191 Part 2 vlog takes me up to day 341 of my year long adventure ride around Australia & I’ve inadvertently just completed the first horror 10km’s of the Finke Desert Race track! Another 120kms to go! I finally got back onto the Old Ghan Heritage Trail and stuff me...the horror continued! Deep sand PLUS corro was the theme from here on in! Keeping my momentum & staying upright was the ONLY things on my mind! It was a thigh burning, wrist wrenching, shoulder straining, neck wrenching horror ride from hell! I again screwed up before Rumbalara taking the race track instead of the Ghan Trail and was stuck on it for another horrifying 8kms! The road didn’t start to improve until at least 80kms into it near Bundooma and even then it still had horror sections that were killer! This is by far one of the most challenging rides I’ve ever done and is up there with Harry’s Hole in WA’s far north! Staying upright was sheer ass, luck and determination and I just wanted to get to the end of it so I could jump off this horror ride from hell! By the time I reached Rodinga which is only 1km before the end of the Old Ghan Heritage Trail and which is the junction to Maryvale Road, 2.5hrs had passed with 4 stops along the way and just under 20km’s of actual racetrack completed including the worst section closest to Finke...I was done! My average speed to stay upright was between 70-80kmph where there was hard pack under the sand and as low as 60kmph on thd full on technical sections. At times I looked over at the race track running parallel to the road I was riding and honestly...the race track was the better option if it weren’t for all of the whoops! This road was truly the stuff of nightmares! YAY! UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE! Can’t believe I did it and lived to tell the tale without a single drop! It’s a miracle! I was so stuffed and my wrists, neck & shoulders were aching so bad, I decided to camp in the bush at Rodinga. Getting of the saddle was the best feeling ever! What an accomplishment...so proud of myself! After a big walk around the surrounding area to wind down and clear the lactose build up from muscles, I had an early dinner & was pumping Z’s by 9:00PM ready for another big day tomorrow! It’s always an adventure...carry on! 😁👍🏁⛺️🏍💨
