Traditional Japanese houses combine beauty, tradition and architectural philosophy. These houses offer a perfect harmony between the interior and the garden through their distinctive deep roofs, creating an intimate relationship between the dim interior space and the bright garden. In this video, we will explore the concept of Teioku Ichinyo, the harmony between building and nature, which creates a calming atmosphere for its inhabitants. Taking inspiration from the work of Junichiro Tanizaki, we explore the aesthetics of low light that highlight the beauty of traditional Japanese materials and furnishings, as well as the contrast between light and dark. in this project, we worked with seven skilled Japanese craftsmen to create a space that combines natural touches, from wood to meaningful plasterwork. Each element comes together in a space that evokes a sense of calm and cultural richness, with a blend of traditional and modern values throughout. This home embodies the understated luxury of Japan, reflecting the wabi-sabi philosophy that values imperfection and harmony.
