Fighting between Houthis and army continues

(21 Nov 2015) Fighting continued on Saturday in the province of Taiz in Yemen. Yemen's fighting pits the Houthis and allied army units against forces loyal to the internationally recognized government as well as southern separatists and other militants. The UN says at least 2,577 civilians were killed since the Saudi-led air campaign began in March, while 5,078 have been injured. In Taiz, most of those fighting against the Houthis are part of the Southern Resistance Movement, which has in the past called for the liberation of Southern Yemen from the capital in the north, Sanaa. Yemen, the Arab world's poorest nation, has been embroiled in a conflict that pits the Iran-backed Houthis and forces loyal to a former president against the Saudi-backed and internationally recognized government. The Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the rebels and their allies since March, fearful of Iranian influence spreading across the Arabian Peninsula. The southern resistance forces have claimed to have pushed the Houthis out of Taiz, but as of Saturday clashes continued.
